Anxiety of Acceleration is the new EP from dub techno duo Cyanwave. This four track psychedelic masterpiece takes you on a sonic trek through deep dub and atmospheric techno. The hybrid sound of Cyanwave is the result of fusing and reinterpreting the duo's contrasting backgrounds; Justin Byrnes a former rock lead guitarist and Keith Kelley a DJ in the fertile midwest 90s rave scene. Using a combination of analog and digital synthesizers, expansive software and processing, Cyanwave values sound aesthetic over genre loyalty. Experimentation is not limited to production; exploration continues during each performance as they continually reconfigure what it means to play live, including joining forces with Innerflight resident harmonica virtuoso Night Train (Sean Donoghue-Neider) whose haunting harp work appears on this release.
“Dilate” bubbles and simmers with dub, blossoming into cavernous temples awash with the echo of a blues-tinged harmonica.
“Mirage” captures the exuberance of shimmering hallucinations dancing on the horizon without the smoke and mirrors; a feverishly undulating bassline coupled with deftly processed harmonica samples makes for an
expertly guided and deliciously comtemplative freefall down the rabbit hole.
An irresistibly funky bassline and skittering synths meet ethereal harmonica in “Shift,” evoking a thundering ghost train chugging with dark techno energy.
The warm and reverent ambient composition that is “Peak” captures the full spectrum of psychedelic experience and distills it into 13.5 minutes of amniotic tidal bliss that builds in intensity and ripples with enlightenment.
